Chapter 393: Ancient Secret
Chapter 393: Ancient Secret
After smiling, Gongsun Xing continued, "Mingxuan needs proper rest for the next few days. It would be best if no one disturbed him."
"Gongsun Xing? Shouldn’t you be..."
Only after seeing Gongsun Xing did Yue Mingxuan suddenly realize something was wrong.
Back when Gongsun Xing got married, he had sent Yue Mingxuan an invitation.
However, at the time, Yue Mingxuan had been preoccupied with the affairs of the Nine Abyssal Gate and had paid little attention to it.
Now that he saw Gongsun Xing standing before him, he finally remembered what he had forgotten.
"So this little rascal still remembers me?"
There was a hint of reproach in Gongsun Xing’s voice.
Naturally, on the day of his wedding, the person he most wanted to see there had been Yue Mingxuan.
However, he also knew that Yue Mingxuan had been troubled by matters concerning the Nine Abyssal Gate lately.
He still did not know that Yue Mingxuan was the Imperator Jin.
He merely assumed that Yue Mingxuan had many important matters demanding his attention.
At the same time, there had been circumstances forcing him and Wang Jian to hold the wedding sooner than expected.
A certain princess had taken a liking to Wang Jian and wished to marry him.
Every time Wang Jian rejected her, she found a way to pressure him again.
After all, she was a princess.
Wang Jian could not simply use forceful methods to deal with her.
He had already explained countless times that he was together with Gongsun Xing and would soon be married.
Yet the princess insisted that she would rather become a concubine than give up on marrying him.
Wang Jian repeatedly stated that all his feelings belonged to Gongsun Xing and that he had nothing left to offer anyone else.
The princess, however, took advantage of the fact that they were not yet married and repeatedly attempted to separate them.
With no other options remaining, Wang Jian ultimately chose to marry Gongsun Xing ahead of schedule.
None of this had been told to Yue Mingxuan.
Gongsun Xing believed that he and Wang Jian were capable of handling such matters themselves, so he never troubled Yue Mingxuan with them.
Even so, he still felt that the wedding had been incomplete.
Without Yue Mingxuan, he and Wang Jian would never have been able to be together in the first place.
Therefore, Yue Mingxuan’s absence from that joyous occasion remained his greatest regret.
After hearing Gongsun Xing’s explanation, Yue Mingxuan finally realized just how many things he had neglected during this period.
Yet there was little he could have done.
His thoughts had been entirely consumed by the Nine Abyssal Gate.
Because of that, he had failed to notice many of the things happening around him.
"As for the Nine Abyssal Gate, I have actually heard of it before in Silver Needle Sect."
"What?"
Yue Mingxuan’s eyes widened in surprise.
Gongsun Xing had heard of the Nine Abyssal Gate?
Silver Needle Sect could hardly be described as the least informed place in the world, but it was certainly isolated from worldly affairs.
The sect rarely interacted with the outside world.
Aside from healing the sick and saving lives, there was little else for its people to concern themselves with.
As for the affairs of the martial world, they were seldom discussed there.
So how could a place like Silver Needle Sect possibly know about an organization such as the Nine Abyssal Gate?
Yue Mingxuan voiced his doubts aloud, but Gongsun Xing merely smiled.
"In Silver Needle Sect, there are actually more than just eccentric scholars obsessed with medical arts. Besides them, there are many other kinds of people as well."
"Then who was it that told you about the Nine Abyssal Gate?"
"It was during the last plague."
Gongsun Xing’s expression also became serious.
At that time, he had simply assumed that the Nine Abyssal Gate was some insignificant sect.
After all, he had never even heard the name before, so he paid little attention to it.
Only later, after hearing the name mentioned repeatedly, did he begin to suspect that the Nine Abyssal Gate was not as simple as it appeared.
However, whether it was the Nine Abyssal Gate or The Black Archon, Silver Needle Sect concerned itself only with healing the sick and saving lives.
It had no apparent connection to organizations like those.
Yet later, after searching through the historical records of Silver Needle Sect, he discovered that the truth was not so simple.
Originally, Silver Needle Sect had once been a part of The Black Archon itself.
Later, after the Nine Abyssal Gate rebelled and broke away, the people within The Black Archon gradually scattered.
As a result, the organization slowly split into several separate factions.
Silver Needle Sect, the Flying Opera Group, the Sword Forge Villa, and even the Ten Thousand Wisdom Hall had originally all been branch divisions of The Black Archon.
Upon hearing this revelation, Yue Mingxuan was completely stunned.
"You mean that The Black Archon was originally an enormous organization?"
"Perhaps it was even more than that."
Gongsun Xing nodded.
"The records I found were extremely ancient. The writing was obscure and difficult to understand, so I was unable to decipher very much of it. Most of what was written concerned the rise and decline of Silver Needle Sect itself."
"How did you discover it?"
"That’s the strange part. I didn’t find it myself."
Gongsun Xing shook his head.
"One day, someone simply placed it on my desk. At first, I assumed it was some kind of prank. But the more I read, the more I realized that something about it wasn’t quite right."
"So you still don’t know who gave it to you?"
"I truly have no idea."
Gongsun Xing smiled bitterly.
"The writing itself was extremely difficult to interpret. I spent a tremendous amount of effort just to roughly piece together the meaning of the things I told you earlier. This is the book itself."
As he spoke, Gongsun Xing pulled a book from his pocket.
