Chapter 678: First Target
Chapter 678: First Target
No doubt about it, that’s him, our first target. One of the three Angels we need to defeat in order to clear this trial.
It’s been a bit over two hours since I snuck into Sanctuary Eta, and finally, I found what I was looking for. Or rather, who I was looking for.
I was currently atop a tall building, and right across me was a luxury apartment building. The top floor was a large penthouse, with an open pool on the balcony.
Lounging by the pool with a drink in hand and watching something on an I-Watch, was one of the Angels. I’ve already cast Appraisal on him, and:

He had spiky blue hair that was pushed back, blue eyes, a pale complexion, and a strong build. He was currently shirtless, with a pair of black trousers on his legs.
I have to say, I’m surprised. I thought he’d be a lot more powerful than this. His abilities are fairly limited too. At least, at first glance. Those so-called Divine Arts, they’re bound to be powerful.
That Divine Lightning, I should assume that it can bypass Elemental Immunity. Well, not that that makes much of a difference to me. I may be immune to status effects, but I don’t have any immunity to elemental-...
"So, are you one of the humans subjected to this trial, or just a fan?"
I tensed and spun around while drawing Desecrator out of Treasury, right in the nick of time as a blinding, powerful burst of light erupted behind me. An immense force collided against the length of my blade, before I found myself getting sent hurtling back through the air.
My back slammed onto the top of railing of the balcony I’d been spying on, a sharp clang ringing out as I skimmed off the bar, followed by a loud splash as I crashed into the pool.
I grimaced as I sunk into the water, before launching myself out with a pressurized burst of Negative Energy as I spotted a rapidly growing electric glow above me.
I burst out of the water and shot up into the air, the Angel firing out a devastating ray of lightning down towards me as I rapidly ascended up towards him.
"
The Angel veered back through the air as I stabilized myself with jets of Negative Energy from the soles of my feet, letting out a slow exhale to compose myself and ease the adrenaline.
"Impressive," Smirked the Angel, as sparks of lightning crackled around him.
That lightning, it’s a deeper, darker shade of blue compared to regular Lightning Magic. And it’s much, much more potent. Even as I swallowed up his attack with Drain, I could feel the immense surge of electricity in the air.
"I suppose it doesn’t really matter, but...when and how did you notice me?" I inquired, keeping my distance as I eyed him warily.
"Hm, what would be an explanatory term? Perhaps Electrolocation? Like echolocation, but with electricity. Human bodies naturally generate a small amount of electricity, I can sense that. And I noticed a presence watching me for several minutes, it’s as simple as that," He informed me with a smile.
"I see, so that’s what it was."
"Oh, how rude of me, I haven’t introduced myself. Well, you possess the Appraisal Skill, so perhaps it isn’t necessary, but I suppose I might as well. I am known as Baraqiel Baraqijal. But for the sake of convenience, you may call me Baraq," He introduced himself with a bow of his head.
"Hm. Cool, thanks, Obama."
"What? Ah, hah, I see what you did there, that’s funny," He chuckled in amusement.
Damn it, what do I do? Fight him by myself? Or regroup with the others first? I have a feeling he isn’t going to let me escape easily. I’ll need to create an opening to retreat...
"Alright, then...
"My, how ominous. You-...," Began Baraq, before trailing off as I blasted myself towards him with a burst of Negative Energy.
"
A bright flash of purple burst out as I shot past Baraq, a slight gasp ringing out behind me. I glanced back, to see a wide hole through the middle of his torso...but there was no blood or guts. A golden light was glowing out of the injury instead.
"Wow, you’re fast," He remarked, the hole in his torso closing up as he turned around.
Hm, so his weakness isn’t a Core like the Archdemons. Ai, keep analyzing him and try to find a weakness.
I then zipped back and raised my blade defensively as Baraq fired out a rapid bolt of lightning at me, which collided against the flat of my blade with a jarring impact, a twinge of pain erupting across my hand and wrist as the force of his attack pushed me back a few meters through the air.
I unleashed a drilling ray of Negative Energy at him from my left hand as I shot towards him, my attack grazing his right side as he swerved across to his left to evade it. I swung my blade down as I closed in on him, inflicting a shallow cut across his right shoulder, before a swirling mass of golden energy formed in his right hand.
I swiftly shrouded my body with Ravage: Cloak as he fired the energy at me, his eyes widening in surprise as his blast disappeared the instant it came into contact with the swirling black and white energy of Ravage wrapped around me.
I then launched myself forward with another pressurized burst of Negative Energy, shooting straight through the Angel, erasing most of his body in the blink of an eye. The upper half of his head and a portion of his limbs were all that was left of him.
Did that do the trick?
"Okay, I’ll admit, I didn’t think you’d be this strong. That was quite painful."
I glanced back with a grimace as his body began to regrow from the few pieces that was left of it, an unbothered look on his face.
How annoying. This is going to be quite a hassle, isn’t it?
