Chapter 194: Fusion and Division
Chapter 194: Fusion and Division
"This is my research: Fusion and Division. Have you ever thought about combining multiple abilities into a single one?! Have you ever tried to divide them back up? What will happen if you fuse two abilities into one?"
Auric was a bit startled. He contemplated, remembering all the times he tried to fuse two abilities, not two elements. "Each ability has its own flow and energy. When you fuse them, it’s only natural for two different flows to clash. As a result, they will cancel out."
"Exactly. However, my research is to combine two or more abilities into one as well as dividing them back apart."
Auric remembered his ’Edict.’ This battle technique allowed him to write a word and use it all at once. However, each word would have a different system.
It wasn’t what Auric had in mind either.
This research might actually allow him to reach what he wanted.
Just like the name, he wanted to turn his current ’Edict’ into a real ’Edict.’ Just like when a king used a royal decree to command someone, his ’Edict’ was supposed to have a similar effect.
Of course, it wasn’t to control someone. He wanted to control his own abilities.
In other words, when he tried to write "Lock," the four characters would combine into one and turn into a chain or something that would bind or restrain the target. Unfortunately, the current ’Edict’ only allowed him to use each character differently.
There were a lot of plans in his mind. For example, he could create multiple words consisting of multiple elements and combine them.
Unfortunately, even with Lindwurm’s knowledge, he still couldn’t do it.
That was why this research might allow him to fulfill his goal. He believed that his ’Edict’ would become his most efficient and powerful skill. He would be able to get the best out of all his elements.
However, this was another person’s research.
He couldn’t exactly demand that Schad hand it over that easily.
The teacher formally introduced himself. "I am Professor Terneitre Schad. If you find it hard to spell my name, you can call me Professor Schad, or pronounce it however you like."
"What do you need from me, Professor? Why would you show me something like that?" Auric asked.
"I would like us to work together. I have noticed one thing about you. Your sense of control is something that I have never seen. I believe that if it’s you, I might be able to figure out the last missing piece of my research. In exchange, I will list you as the second author. What do you think?"
Auric was bewildered. "Is that all right?"
"Hoho. A normal student will ask whether they can actually do it or not. After all, you’re still a freshman, but I like your confidence."
"I’m sorry." Auric scratched the back of his head. "Still, I will only be here for two weeks. I don’t think I can do much, Professor."
Schad shook his head. "As I said, I’m only missing one last piece. Try to look at it and replicate what has been written. Maybe we will be able to find a solution after some trial and error.
"Of course, if you end up failing during your stay here and I find another person to make it a success, I will put that person as the second author. However, I will still put you as the third one."
"That’s a very tempting offer." Auric was amused.
"It’s good that you’re thinking that way. It’s hard to find students who would like to research things." Schad scoffed. "How about you read this first?"
"I understand." Auric nodded. This research wasn’t about battle techniques. It was a proof of concept. Auric might use it to perfect his Edict, but others might use it in different ways.
Auric carefully read the research.
The fusion part explained how to channel the energy and try to combine them. According to the data, the fusion could happen for some time, but it was different from elemental fusion.
As a result, the fusion was undone a moment later, which caused the two energies to clash with each other.
The division was meant as a separation mechanism for the fusion. It allowed the user to divide their power and release multiple abilities at the same time so that it could be fused. And once it was fused, this concept could also break them apart once again.
It was a very complex concept, but Auric could somehow understand it. Because of Lindwurm’s lessons, he understood at least seventy percent of it in one go.
It was amazing for someone who was only a first-year student.
"Professor, I have three questions. The first one is this." Auric pointed to a part. "When we are using our energy, how are we meant to store that power? Is it the same as a magic item? If yes, then I haven’t learned anything about that."
"Actually, creating a magic item is quite simple." Schad grabbed a pen on his table. He then channeled his power into this pen and tossed it toward the wall. The pen pierced the wall easily.
"There are three processes. As you can see, I imbue my power into the pen. What you need is to seal that power inside. The power I’m talking about is not affinity but a battle technique. For example, you understand that there is a change in the flow of energy for each element, right?"
"Yes."
"You just have to create a pathway to imitate the circulation part and the manifestation part in an object. Then, use the energy from materials or other sources such as artifacts to fuel it."
Auric noticed that Schad actually used a barrier to create that pathway before channeling his energy.
However, the magic item hadn’t been completed. It was true that they could sense how the energy flowed, but Auric might be able to make a perfect magic item by completely understanding how the particles moved.
In a way, could he use the gathering techniques to make a magic item? It might create a self-sustaining system in the magic item. If that were the case, he might be able to put it in his Sun Store or Moon Store.
Unfortunately, that was a topic for another time.
"Creating a pathway, fueling it, and releasing it. How do we store our power? We just have to create a loop in the pathway."
Auric read the paper again. The storing process was different from the way they normally stored the energy when using a battle technique. The former was completely controlled by them. The latter was separated from their control.
If they couldn’t control it, the energy might go berserk. It looked like the professor was trying to store that power like a magic item.
In other words, he was creating a temporary magic item made purely of his own energy.
It was why the division was needed. The division concept separated them from the conventional system.
"How about this one?" Auric showed another part. "The fusion requires you to combine two systems into a single one. If we want to combine them, can’t we just control them like in elemental fusion?"
"Not at all. The elemental fusion is good, but they have one flaw. It is only good for different elements. If you want to combine the two of them by using that concept, isn’t it better to just pour twice as much energy into them?"
"That is... true." Auric looked down.
Schad added, "On the other hand, this fusion is meant to combine two different systems. For example, one technique can create a powerful torrential energy, while another technique can create a powerful discharge. By combining them, you can create a powerful discharge that has a torrential flow."
Auric nodded in understanding. "In that case, my last question is about the progress... I think I can learn better with a demonstration. Is it possible?"
"Of course. Take a look at this." Schad raised both hands. Each hand formed its own wind ball, but the flow of energy within each ball was different.
The ball on the right had a torrential energy. He could see the powerful spin within the ball that amplified the burst upon impact.
On the left, the energy within the ball was circling in one direction. It surely amplified the speed.
Schad then pushed these two balls into each other. He didn’t control them because they had become independent systems, so he could only push them with his own energy.
However, the problem started upon combining.
As soon as they merged, the particles within them clashed, which made the combined ball unstable.
"See?" Schad showed it. "If I throw it right now, it will probably burst soon. If I wait too long, it will dissolve."
Of course, it would dissolve. The particles hit each other and caused them to move in different directions. If they waited, those particles would deplete their energy and disperse.
If the strong outer layer that contained this unstable energy popped, it would release the unstable energy.
However, Auric was probably the only one in this world who could see what happened.
At the same time, he didn’t really want to tell anyone about his ability to see the particles within the energy, at least not yet.
But if he managed to solve this problem, he might be able to perfect his ’Edict.’
Lindwurm had been observing them from the beginning. He crossed his arms and said, "It’s a very complex concept, but I still can’t figure out how to solve this problem."
Even Lindwurm didn’t have an idea. Auric explained, "I can see the current situation. All I have to do is to make the two systems not interfere with each other or maybe completely fuse into one. Is that correct?"
"Indeed. Do you have an idea?"
"I’m not sure right now, but I’m going to try. Since I’m also an evolution master, I’m wondering if I can use evolution techniques to solve this problem. All this time, my control has improved thanks to them."
"Oh? Evolution masters? Now that I think about it, I haven’t asked any evolution masters. In that case, you can try to solve it first. If you can’t, I will ask someone I know."
"Understood." Auric nodded.
"Take this paper so you can read it at home. Just make sure not to disclose the content. Understood?"
"Yes, sir."
"Very well, let’s go back to the field. Well, you have already passed the assignment, so you can either leave or help your friends."
"I will go back to the field." Auric nodded.
The students were completely astonished. When Auric and Schad came back, Schad seemed like an entirely different person. He was probably happy that he got a new lead in his research and that he actually answered all kinds of questions from the students.
They were wondering what Auric whispered to him to make him change that much.
In the end, Auric remained in the class until it was over. When he wasn’t disturbed by other students, Auric focused on his own control.
It looked as though Auric had multiple fish swimming around his body. He didn’t shoot them, but he made sure that none of them passed each other.
Tommi and Eric continued to challenge each other, while Ruka was training on her own.
The class itself was quite fun, and he managed to gain some usable knowledge.
In fact, Auric had begun to think about what he should do next since he found a lead to his goal.
Once the class was over, Auric received a message from Katarina about the location of his new store on campus. Of course, he forwarded the message to Milinda since she had been working as his assistant all this time. He intended to pay her with points so that she could exchange what she wanted during their stay there.
To his surprise, Katarina came in a very different way than before.
"What?" Katarina glared at him, feeling embarrassed.
"Why are you wearing... a maid’s uniform?" Auric smiled wryly.
Yes, she was wearing one.
"Don’t you have a fetish for maid uniforms? You were staring at them yesterday, and since I’m going to work in your store, isn’t this appropriate attire?"
Auric was completely speechless at her way of thinking.
There was only one thought in his mind, and it hadn’t changed from the previous day.
The capital city was amazing... in a different way.
